在英语中，我们常用到rabbit和hare这两个单词。但Hare和rabbit不是同义词，二者之间有一些明显差别，但汉语中都可以叫做‘兔子’。
    Hare也叫jackrabbit或jack rabbit，不打洞（burrow/warren），而是在地面坑（depression）里或窝（form）。出生带毛（furred），眼睛睁开。Rabbit是住在洞里的，出生没毛，不能睁眼；家养的通常住在小木屋（hutch）中。Hare比rabbit体型大，耳朵更长，有黑色斑点（marking），不群居，没有被人类驯化（domesticated），所以可以叫‘野兔’。一岁以下的hare叫leveret。一群叫drove。Rabbit可以翻译为‘家兔’，但有的也叫hare，因为长相接近，但实际上还是rabbit，如Belgian Hare。
    我们顺便引用Collins English Dictionary – Complete and Unabridged里面的解释：Hares are larger than rabbits, having longer ears and legs, and live in shallow nests (forms) make a hare of (someone) Irish informal to defeat (someone) completely run with the hare and hunt with the hounds to be on good terms with both sides.
