1. Plan ahead: As with most things in life a little bit of foresight goes a long way. If you love that bikini you just saw in a magazine, track it down now. If you wait until your holidays they won't have it in your size or the colour you love.
2. Remember, holidays are about fun: Get out your favourite colours, try new prints and textures, a new shade of lipstick or a bright nail colour are as mood enhancing as a sunset viewed from the best beach.
3. Packing tips: Flip flops and "wow" evening sandals go in the bottom of your bag/case. Roll all your jersey tops and dresses around them, make-up and creams should be in their own waterproof zip up bag. One well-cut swimsuit for genuine swimming, diving, snorkelling is essential. You will need at least two bikinis for some serious sunbathing and probably one warm item, I always take a piece of cashmere (even the Masai Mara after sundown can get chilly).
4. Prepare your skin: I find those cheap gloves from any chemist that you use to slough your skin in the shower really help you keep your tan whilst away.
5. Scarves, scarves, scarves: Always take a variety of coloured, printed and textured scarves. I use mine as cover-ups on the beach, a wrap on cooler evenings, a mini skirt when doubled over, a hair protecting wrap and of course as a scarf.
6. Sun protection: Don't forget how ageing the sun can be; oversized 'movie star' sunglasses, a packable hat like a Panama and of course great sun cream are every traveller's essentials.
7. Dresses: Your 'don't-think-about-it-outfit-in-one'. I must have over 50 dresses, many of which seem like my actual friends, I dress them up with jewellery, earrings, heeled sandals and a sparkly clutch for dancing in the evening then by day with Havaianas, sunnies and a beach bag and you have the perfect holiday look.
8. Festival dressing: For gods sake don't try too hard. Remember you're out all day long so you really do have to be comfortable. Layered jersey pieces work well and have your own 'flourish', a new hat, fake eyelashes, some bangles from Bali, you decide what yours is.
9. Hand-luggage rules: One swimsuit, two bikinis, flip flops, five scarves, two pairs of sunglasses, five interchangeable jersey pieces, as many dresses that when rolled up will fit, a small evening clutch filled with wow jewellery and my stalwart piece of cashmere... oh, and one pair of evening sandals.
10. Get a pedicure: I don't know why but for me pedicure = holiday. Currently I'm thinking of Cetuem's canary yellow for my feet.
