The 33-year-old Sky Sports News anchor was stopped outside her west London home in the early hours after she pranged her Porsche while attempting to park.
She was arrested when a police officer noticed she had "glazed eyes" and was "slurring her speech", and she was later found to be over twice the legal limit for driving.
Thompson pleaded guilty to the charge of drink-driving at West London Magistrates Court, where she was also ordered to pay a £1,000 fine and a further £100 in costs.
She had been at a friend's house in Hampshire on the evening of Sunday August 21, and arrived back at her Chelsea home in her Porsche Cayman at 2.30am the following morning.
When breathalysed, she was found to have 76 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml of breath - more than double the legal limit.
The presenter had recently split from celebrity boyfriend Declan Donnelly, famous for his Ant and Dec double act.
Outlining the case against her, prosecutor Brinkman May said: "A police officer on duty was driving along Fulham Road, and he was aware of a car approaching from behind, and he noticed that the car was driving at speed."
The lawyer said the officer followed her for about 20m before she stopped in a No Parking area, then sped across the road.
He said: "She tried to reverse park, but hit another car, causing it to move.
"The officer decided to speak to the driver.
"She explained she had just travelled back from a friend's in Hampshire.
"He noticed that her eyes were glazed and speech slightly slurred."
The celebrity was taken to a nearby police station, where she cooperated fully, the prosecutor said.
Martyn Levett, in mitigation, said the star had worked in broadcasting for 10 years and called her a "sensible and reliable person".
Deputy district judge Robert Morgan-Jones disqualified Thompson from driving for 19 months, but said it could be reduced by four months if she attended a drink-driving course.
She wore a black coat and a grey blouse, and tied her blonde hair in a ponytail.
As the sentence was read out to her she folded her arms, and when asked if she understood, she said: "Absolutely."-08 Sep 2011
