What does the man’s/woman’s answer/remark mean?
What does the man/woman mean/imply?
…
1】What does the man’s remark mean?
A. You’d better find another place to talk with your student.
B. Just carry out the talk in the office.
C. You can join our conversation.
W: Mr. Green, would you mind me having a talk with a student here?
M: Sorry, not here.
2】What does the woman mean?
A. They don’t have many tickets.
B. It’s hard for them to get any ticket.
C. All the tickets are sold out.
M: Do you have any ticket for tomorrow’s concert?
W: We hardly have nay ticket left, you know.
Hardly, rarely, seldom, little, few
Nobody, nothing, neither, nor
Im-, ir-, il-, un-, mis- , dis-, -less
Fail, miss, avoid, deny, hate, refuse, doubt, far from, anything but, instead of, rather than等
Not unknown, no one can deny…, not careless等。
【例3】What does the woman mean?
A. She can’t see it tomorrow.
B. She is eager to see it.
C. She wants the man to see it first.
M: I’ve just ordered a new computer. It’s twice the speed of the one we get now, and much better for games.
M: Really? I can’t wait to see it.
由really可以听出说话人的兴奋,加之理解“I can’t wait to see it.”
