Definition

A pilot (trial) class is a group organized to try out a new course of study or new instructional materials before the course or materials are offered more widely.

Benefits

Here are some benefits of a trial class:

  • You can test and revise instructional materials before producing a lot of them, thus saving time and money on materials that otherwise might not be appropriate or correct.
  • You only need limited amounts of trial materials and other supplies.
  • You can try out a course of study and evaluate and revise it before presenting it to large numbers of people.
  • You can "practice" teaching lessons, and evaluate and revise the teaching process and teaching skills before going on to teach other classes.
